Carmel’s free summer jazz concerts kick off this weekend

Carmel’s popular Jazz on the Monon concert series kicks off Saturday at a new venue.

The outdoor music performances, sponsored by IU Health North Hospital, travel south on the Monon Greenway to a location just south of the Union Brewing Company at Monon Square (northeast corner of the Monon Greenway and City Center Drive).

Improvements to Midtown and the Carmel Arts & Design District this summer forced the move.

The first of the six-concert series features Monika Herzig, who will perform from 6-9 p.m. Saturday. The rest of the summer program:

June 16 – Main Street Jazz Band
June 23 – Brenda Williams
June 30 – The Kenny Phelps Band
July 28 – Tad Robinson
August 4 – Slammer Jazz

Yum: Delicacies abound at the 13th Annual Taste of Carmel

Give them a hand: My teammate had leukemia. These Carmel hockey players raised $1 million to fight cancer.

All shows are free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Monon Square Mall, the Veterans Way Parking Garage in downtown Carmel, or the Tarkington Theater Garage.

Carmel’s “Bike There, Borrow a Chair” program will provide a free lawn chair overnight if you prefer to cycle to the event. At the end of the night, take the chair and the bike home.
