Charleston Challenge Mid-Winter Classic Race, Eastern Jazz Festival, More Going On This Week – The Daily Eastern News

This week there are several entertainment, informational and sporting events in Eastern and Charleston.

African American Heritage Month, AAHM, kicks off with Black History Bingo Monday at 7 p.m. in the MLK Jr. Union University Ballroom.

On Wednesday, the Black Student Union and Alpha Phi Alpha perform “Time Period Train” through Black History in the basement of Andrew Hall at 6 p.m. as part of AAHM.

AAHM continues Thursday with “Everybody Wants To Be Black Until It’s Time To Be Black” presented by Zeta Phi Beta at 6:20 p.m. at Coleman Hall.

Eastern’s Pride is getting involved with AAHM by hosting a movie night watching “The Same Difference” at 7 p.m. in the Coleman Auditorium on Friday.

The 62nd annual Eastern Jazz Festival will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Doudna Fine Arts Center.

Guest Bob Sheppard will perform at the Jazz Festival with the Eastern Jazz Ensemble.

On Saturday, the Charleston Challenge Mid-Winter Classic race begins at the Carl Sandburg School, 1924 Reynolds Drive, with the option to run a 5K, 10K or 15K.

There are staggered start times for each race length. The 15K starts at 10 a.m., the 10K starts at 10:15 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10:30 a.m.

There is a water station on the 10K and 15K courses, and food and drinks are provided after the races.
