Concord Jazz Festival 2022 offers up to 5 days of concerts

The Concord Jazz Festival returns in 2022.

Still, it won’t look like the ones jazz fans have seen in the past.

Instead of being a one-day ticketed event with big-name tours at the Concord Pavilion, the 2022 edition will be a five-day program comprised of mostly free events and spotlighting a number of local talent.

The jazz festival runs from August 3-7 at venues across Concord. The program features five events and has been dubbed “Take Five” after legendary jazz artist (and Concord native) Dave Brubeck.

Here are the events:

August 3: Guitarist Jinx Jones gives a free show at 6:30 p.m. at the Veranda. The concert is part of the Veranda Unplugged series.

August 4: Harpist-violinist Carlos Reyes gives a free show at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Todos Santos Music & Market series.

August 5: Jazz-fusion band Glib Rig perform a free show at 5 p.m. on Jazz Night at the Concord Tap House. The show also features saxophonist KJ Focus.

August 6: Jazz in the Park, featuring performances by DJ/multi-instrumentalist Chaz Gunter and saxophonist Howard Wiley, runs from 1-4 p.m. at Todos Santos Plaza. Free entry.

August 7: The 2022 Concord Jazz Festival wraps up with Java & Jazz, featuring contemporary jazz band Stratify and saxophonist KJ Focus, at the Concord Museum and Event Center. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include “a collectible mug and unlimited pours of iced coffee and iced tea (while supplies last),” according to a press release. This is a benefit for the Concord Historic Society.
