December 26, 2019, 12:23 p.m.

Local jazz musicians will have the chance to show off their talents with a new concert series called First Friday Five Points Jazz Hop, launching next month.

The series was created by the organizers of the town’s Juneteenth celebration, Norman Harris and Christopher Banks. The banks said they have been working on this program since the last celebration on June 15. The program is sponsored by Denver Arts & Venues, KUVO, The Drop, and Five Points Development Corporation.

“We try to keep the jazz vibe going in the Five Points community while bringing the community together at the same time,” Banks said. “It’s going to be awesome. Every first Friday you get to see local jazz musicians, R&B groups.

Local artists will be chosen each month to perform at various bars and restaurants along Welton Street. Multiple bands will play in multiple locations throughout the night, giving people the chance to “jump” between themselves to discover a new band. The shows are all free and open to the public.

The first series of concerts will take place on January 3. The three shows include:

  • Joshua Trinidad Trio at the Spangalang Brewery, (5:30 p.m.)
  • Tenia Nelson Trio at Dunbar Kitchen & Taps (7pm)
  • Jazz Vashti at Goed Zuur (8:30 p.m.)
