Melbourne Jazz Festival slated for December as Fat Freddy’s Drop postponed
The Melbourne International Jazz Festival heralds the move to December with an adjusted schedule, live events and programming that will celebrate the best of Melbourne’s world-famous jazz scene.
With home orders continuing through the initial October dates, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival announced today that while it will not go as planned, there is light on the horizon for fans of Victorian jazz in 2021.

As the city reopens, this year’s festival will continue with a full schedule of live events on new dates from Thursday December 2 through Sunday December 5. Over a busy four-day long weekend, the festival will revive the city with more than 70 performances and events, celebrating the best of Melbourne’s world-renowned jazz scene.
Melbourne International Jazz Festival Artistic Director Michael Tortoni said: “The live experience is so important to this art form and we want to give our audience the chance to see the artists they love – live and on stage. We have been fondling the idea of a fully online festival for October, and there will of course be an online component during new dates as the weather calls for, but we know how eager audiences are to come out, to come back. in places and to have these experiences that can only exist in a festival context. With the opportunity to do it all around the corner, it’s a decision we’re excited to make. “
With international travel arrangements still complex and in the absence of a New Zealand bubble, the festival’s Big Sunday event, led by Fat Freddy’s Drop, will now take place as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival 2022 with the same lineup on the 15th. October, which is a Saturday.
Still as big as ever – the audience just sleeps the next day. Big Sunday ticket holders have been automatically shifted to this date and refunds are also available through Ticketek.
The updated 2021 Melbourne International Jazz Festival schedule will be announced on Thursday, October 21, and tickets will go on sale again from Friday, October 22.
