Teahouse owner’s jazz events delight crowds looking for safe fun
NEW TAMPA, Fla – Arlene Brooks owns a specialty boutique Coffee speaks, tea speaks. Like most businesses in Florida, it was forced to shut down when authorities issued the Safer at Home order.
After being allowed to reopen their New Tampa tearoom, Brooks came up with the idea for “Jazz Under the Stars in Your Cars”. She hoped the event would generate foot traffic.
The plan was to throw a tailgate party in his parking lot where customers would sit in their cars or outside on lawn chairs and listen to jazz musicians from the Tampa Bay area perform live.
Popular DJ Reese Elliot performed tunes and served as emcee. He pumped the crowd by saying, “When we first said this, we had 62 people. The second time around, we had 100. Last Saturday there were 155 people in the crowd.
Brooks was stunned.
“I was more than surprised! It just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger, ”Brooks said.
Crowd size is simply increasing through word of mouth and social media.
Brooks says many people are just looking for a safe, fun way for the whole family to have fun and relax. She is more than happy to provide the venue.
The next “Jazz under the stars in your cars” is scheduled for Saturday June 20 at 7pm. You can call ahead or visit the tearoom website To order food.
