The annual Chandler Jazz Festival kicks off April 1 downtown

PHOENIX — As the calendar draws closer to April, the town of Chandler is getting jazzed up again with the annual Chandler Jazz Festival next month downtown.

With April representing Jazz Appreciation Month, the two-day festival kicks off April 1 and will feature a lineup littered with local talent spanning a variety of genres, from rhythm fusion to flowing jazz.

There will be 15 hours of live musical performances taking place at Dr. AJ Chandler Park: Stage Plaza on Commonwealth Avenue.

The first day of the festival will run from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and then from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on the second day. The event is free to the public.

Kicking off the first night of the festival is Sugar Thieves, which takes center stage on the main stage at 5 p.m.

Sugar Thieves has a global following and has been performing since 2006, best known for their high-energy and moving live shows.

The Tommy Grills, Sir Harrison Band and Dennis Jones will also take the main stage on the festival’s opening night.

The second day of the festival features over eight hours of live performances, with The Mike Ozuna Quintet playing on the main stage at 5 p.m.

Closing the festival on the main stage is Josiel Perez’s MambAZ All-Stars, a band that brings together the fiery sounds of Cuba with soulful jazz.

A beer and wine garden presented by the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership will be available for festival-goers, along with a variety of food vendors and artisan stalls.
